contents: A platen press, made in Germany, for the production of small printed matter. Platen presses could be operated by one person and put into operation mechanically or by using a pedal. Instead of a cylinder, the platen press has a `platen': a plate which presses the whole surface of the paper to be printed in one operation. Platen presses were primarily used in smaller print works for the local and regional market.
