contents: Interior of the printing house of the 'N.V. Boekhandel en Drukkerij, formerly E.J. Brill', shortly before the composing in lead and the old printing processes were to be definitively replaced by more modern composing and printing techniques. In 1683 Samuel Luchtmans founded a printing house in Leiden that was taken over by the Brill family in 1848. The company has a long tradition in the printing and publishing of scholarly publications, especially in the field of Oriental religions, languages and cultures and as such has become a byword throughout the world.
