contents: The Groningen printer Hendrik Nicolaas Werkman (1882-1945) is one of the major Dutch graphic artists. In a style completely his own he produced very colourful prints which he called 'druksels' (printsels) and he published a magazine of his own, "The Next Call", in a very particular typography and execution. Most remarkable, and a highlight of Dutch book art, are his series of (clandestine) prints for the company 'De Blauwe Schuit' (The Blue Barge) which appeared between 1940-1944 (40 editions in all). In the spring of 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Germans and summarily shot shortly before the liberation.
