contents: With the disappearance of the Republic in 1795 the old system of guilds and privileges would also be lost. For the former booksellers' guilds this was accompanied with much uncertainty and fear of the loss of the freedoms obtained. This was a report drawn up by the committee for commerce and shipping (under which the booksellers fell) in which a reaction was voiced to a number of petitions for privileges, copyright, ownership, etc. There is also a decree with new provisions arising from the deliberations of the committee.
