contents: From the commemorative book: 'Peculiar in the lithographer's of the firm of Immig is that one can not see how the cylinder presses, large and small, are put into motion. It is as if there is a mysterious force which brings the great monsters with the heavy stones into motion. The power required for this is passed to the machines by electrical motors of which one is situated next to each machine.' It was difficult to obtain large stones of good quality. In addition, they were fairly vulnerable in spite of their weight and could break while being handled or during printing. It was for this reason that experiments were conducted everywhere to find replacements such as, for example, zinc and aluminium plates.
