contents: The interior of the bookseller Hermanus de Wit, situated at the corner of Molsteeg and Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, represented by the well-known draughtsman/engraver Reinier Vinkeles (1741-1816). It is one of the rare contemporary representations of bookshops in the Netherlands. Comparison with older pictures shows that the interiors of the 18th century did not differ a lot from those in the previous century. On the shelves are mostly bound books (on older pictures we see more often piles of unbound books), but to the left, as in the 17th century, someone is binding a book.
