contents: Frontispiece of the first part of a large compendium on birds. The complete work, in five parts, was not finished until 1829. All plates of this first part were made and subsequently coloured by hand by Christiaan Sepp, a great connoisseur of birds and insects and a draughtsman, engraver and cartographer in Amsterdam. He was also, together with his son, the publisher of this and other picture books on birds, butterflies and insects. The book contains fifty large engravings which always depict one bird, if possible life-size, often with nest and eggs. The price for the complete set of five parts was NLG 525. It must for a long time have been the most expensive book published in the Netherlands.
